LATENCY INDICATION PROTOCOL (LIP)

LATENCY INDICATION PROTOCOL (LIP)

Latency Indication Protocol (LIP)

Although various implementations for audio/video synchronization, more commonly referred to as “lip sync”, have been around for many years, there has been demand for improvements as content, distribution, devices and installations have become more diverse and demanding. Whether it is the obvious lag between a person’s lip movements and hearing the words, or sounds and visuals being out of sync for footsteps, a door closing, or for fast-paced gaming interactions, the out-of-sync experience is a distraction and can make content unwatchable. This can be even worse when a system involves multiple audio and video paths that cause latency such as using an audio video receiver, soundbar, or other devices.

Latency Indication Protocol (LIP) enhanced audio video synchronization enables source devices to determine latency adjustments and to mitigate differences in audio and video to achieve improved audio/video synchronization.
