Revision to the OSD-Only Output Restriction on 480P/576P Video Transmission
On February 6, 2013, HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. (formerly HDMI Licensing, LLC) issued a Notice to all Adopters with respect to HDMI Sources that output only an on-screen display message (“OSD”) (1) communicating to consumers that 480P/576P video was not supported, or (2) recommending that consumers switch their sink device to a resolution higher than 480p. The Notice advised Adopters that such OSD did not comply with the letter or intent of HDMI Specification minimum video resolution requirements.
HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. hereby notifies Adopters that the HDMI Founders have revised the restrictions in that prior Notice only for certain types of devices, as follows:
Stationary HDMI Sources that output native 4K or higher video content at original video resolution may output only an OSD for 480P/576P to meet the HDMI Source minimum video resolution requirement of the HDMI Specification if the HDMI Sink only supports 480P/576P.
- If the HDMI Sink supports 720P or higher and the Stationary HDMI Source supports it, the Source shall NOT output only an OSD for 480P/576P
- If the video content is less than 4K video resolution, then the Stationary HDMI Source shall NOT output only an OSD for 480P/576P “Stationary” HDMI Sources are defined as HDMI Sources that are not mobile or portable, and that cannot fully function under their own battery power.
The February 6, 2013 Notice for 480P/576P video content shall continue to apply to all HDMI Sources that are NOT “Stationary.” All HDMI Sources that are NOT Stationary and that output only OSD on 480P/576P video transmission shall continue to be deemed non-compliant with the minimum video resolution requirement of the HDMI Specification.
Please review the February 6, 2013 announcement for details of this existing requirement.
