HDMI Passive Adapters

HDMI Passive Adapters are passive interconnect components that typically provide coupling between HDMI Plug to HDMI Receptacle and convert connectors from HDMI Type A to Type A, Type C or Type D connector types. Based on usage case, there are different form factors of these components such as “small attachment” or “pig tail” for exchange of connector type on HDMI Cable Assemblies or Devices. Additionally, there may often be an “adjustable cable” type for wall installations or for tight spaces such as wall mounted displays.

HDMI Passive Adapter Compliance Program

To meet the growing needs of the HDMI ecosystem, HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. (HDMI LA) has released a new Implementation Guideline for HDMI Passive Adapter. HDMI Passive Adapters compliant with this Guideline can support the full range of HDMI 1.4b features.

These enable users to have flexibility when installing their HDMI Products in situations and environments where making the connection can pose a challenge. All HDMI Passive Adapters are designed for specific use cases and will have usage limitations that are product-specific, as defined by the HDMI Passive Adapter manufacturer.

HDMI Passive Adapters are considered in compliance only when they meet all the requirements of the Implementation Guideline for HDMI Passive Adapter.

They are typically used in a situation where space is limited or a professional installation where cables are installed in the walls.
HDMI Passive Adapters can support the full range of HDMI 1.4b features.
This guideline document supports only HDMI 1.4b.
HDMI Passive Adapters will work with other compliant HDMI Devices and Cables under the specific use cases defined by the HDMI Passive Adapter manufacturer.

This type typically has an HDMI Receptacle and Plug with a short wire in between.
